LSBU Brixton Topcats 78-71 Worcester Wolves II
Top Scorers: Umekwe 25, Ashley 19, Petkus 13
LSBU Brixton Topcats kept their 100% record in the league with a hard fought home victory over the Worcester Wolves II to reverse an earlier loss in the Patron’s Cup to the same side.
Worcester started the game with intent scoring a three as the opening basket of the game. Topcats responded with two foul shots from Vytenis Petkus who was fouled on a strong move to the basket. Worcester then went on to score 7 unanswered points and they led by a similar margin for the rest of the quarter, with Nathan Ashley hitting his first three at the buzzer to leave the Topcats trailing by 8 points 21-13 at the first break.
Ashley started the second quarter where he left off on the first hitting back to back threes, to shift the momentum very much in the Topcats favour as they hit a game high 29 quarter points with Petkus contributing 10 as the Topcats led at the half 42-32.
However the third quarter was the exact opposite as Worcester poured in 26 points including 5 consecutive 3 pointers, to the Topcats 12, with captain Uche Umekwe the only significant scorer from the home side. The score going into the final period was 58-54 to the visitors.
Umekwe continued his scoring touch and Ashley hit two more back to back threes early in the quarter as Topcats once again seized the advantage as they scored the first 10 points of the quarter. This was a lead they never relinquished with Rabah Tahraoui adding balanced scoring to the Topcats offense. Petkus hit some big baskets down the stretch as the Topcats ran out winners 78-71 in a very up and down game where each quarter had a very definite winner.
Topcats next home game is on Sunday 3rd November against Mansfield Giants 4pm tip off.
