Nottingham Wildcats 82 (Harris 17, Stokes 15, Prior 9)
Brixton Topcats 40 (Nelson 13, Okwuosa 7, Grant 6)
Nottingham Wildcats remain unbeaten so far this season in the WBBL after notching their fourth straight victory in beating the winless Brixton Topcats 82-40. Wildcats controlled the game from the early stages, behind a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds from Ashley Harris.
Siobhan Prior got the hosts going with a three-pointer, and the first quarter lead was already 23-11 after early 8-0 and 6-0 bursts, with Amber Stokes adding four points before the end of the period.
Stokes had 12 first half points, and scored again in an 11-2 start to the second stanza, in which Andrea Vackova added her second three-pointer. When Stokes scored consecutively and Vicky Gray added another triple, the first half score peaked at 46-19, with the Wildcats – the second best defence in the league and the top defensive rebounding team – having forced 16 turnovers from their visitors and out-rebounding them 28-18.
A low-scoring third quarter suited the dominant hosts – who were runners-up in three competitions last season and go joint-top of the league with this win – before they burst back out of the blocks early in the fourth period, with a 17-2 run including treys from Lisa Greenaway and Vackova.
The lead peaked at 82-37 on another Greenaway triple, and Wildcats now head into a WBBL Trophy semi-final against Manchester Mystics on Sunday.
