The Lady Topcats continue their hot streak to the season winning at Ipswich Basketball with a 55 point haul whilst recording an impressive 35 steals.

The game started with Rochelle Davids finding her touch early knocking down her first three shots giving the Topcats a early 10-2 lead. The uptempo style caused Ipswich problems allowing fast break lay ups from Witter and Lwazi extending the lead to 24-8 after the first quarter.

The second quarter stayed much in the favour of the Topcats who were sharing the ball with Rachel James running the offence well giving open looks for Lwazi and Davids who combined for 32 of the first half points giving the Lady Topcats a 46-19 lead going into the break.

The second half saw the home side switch to a zone defence allowing the Lady Topcats to show their versatility knocking down a total of 10 three pointers with Lwazi making 4 of her own and Ishara Bilson-Graham and Tia Brown knocking down a pair each. Under 18 junior Vanessa Johnson also got in the action knocking down a deep three pointer of her own. The Lady Topcats proved too strong for Ipswich resulting in a convincing 99-43 win moving them to 2-0 in the League.

Game high scorer Fatumah Lwazi who finished with 35 points and 10 steals shooting an impressive 67% FG was happy with the win:

“We have a team that can adjust to any situation which definitely showed today where we had to play different positions. We ran the floor well which played a big part for getting us the win and I’m proud of the team’s performance”.

Head Coach Steve Vear was also very happy with the teams performance:

“Not having any of our bigs due to work commitments and injuries meant I asked all of our guards to play out of position. I really couldn’t have asked anymore from them. Getting 35 steals as a team highlights how good our defence can be. I’m delighted to get the win and move to 2-0 in the league”

The Lady Topcats next home game will be Sunday November 10th versus London Westside which will be a great game as the Lady Topcats ran out close winners with a 63-57 victory in their last encounter. Come and support your Topcats at Brixton Rec.
