LSBU Lady Topcats 98-27 St Albans Saints

The Lady Topcats put in a dominate performance away to St Albans Saints topping off a great start to the season sitting top of Division 2.
The game started slow with both teams trading baskets where back to back three pointers from Sevian Witter & Rachel James, followed by Rochelle Davids scoring on the break gave the Topcats a 12-6 lead after 5 minutes. Then entered new signing Taylor Hilton who didn’t take long to stamp her mark by scoring the final eight points of the quarter extending the lead to 20-12.
The second quarter started with another Hilton score who had already moved her tally to 10 points in just under 5 minutes of play. Ishara Bilson-Graham connected on back to back to plays and James also connected where the Topcats were finding gaps in the Saints’ zone defence from both inside and outside scoring. The defence had now also picked up by the Lady Topcats with trapping defence which helped to continue to pile the points on from the whole team with c0-captian James once again connecting from deep to move her onto 12 personal points and pushing the lead out to a 30 point lead at the half (47-17).
The Lady Topcats pride themselves on defence which lead to easy baskets on the other end. Bilson-Graham was getting herself in the passing lanes stealing the ball allowing the away team to get out on the break for easy scores. The Saints stayed in their zone defense where Bilson-Graham exploited scoring from deep which saw Davids the facilitator finding the gaps and making some great assists to set her team mates up. The lead had now rocketed to 74-21 at the end of the quarter with Witter hitting a buzzer beater three pointer.
The final stanza saw Vanessa Da Silva take control on the offensive end scoring 9 of her 13 points as well as on the boards tallying an impressive 16 rebounds for the game. The game was well out of the Saints’ reach who rallied hard but the depth of the Topcats was too much who continued to up the tempo with substitutions to close out the game to win 98-27. New signing Taylor Hilton, finished with a game high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to follow Da Silva notching up a double double. Rochelle Davids (pictured) filled the stat line and was one assist shy of a double double, where James and Bilson-Graham both tallied 16 points a piece with the latter adding 10 steals to add another player posting a double double.
The Lady Topcats go into the Xmas break top of Division 2 and into the semi final of the National Trophy where they will play Bristol Storm on Sunday 19th January – further details to be posted.
