Vanessa Da Silva is playing the best basketball of her career with a great start to the WBBL 2015/16 season where we pick her mind to find out why.
The 6ft 0′ Forward has been a bright spark for Coach Vear’s side where after three games is averaging a near double double of 9.4 PPG & 11.00 RPG. We found out that Da Silva pays this down to hard work, building her confidence and making more time for the sport.
Why do you think you have got off to such a great start this season?
I would say it’s down to my dedication and commitment to getting better and more importantly building my confidence in my game over the summer. Pre-season has also helped a lot working on more skill development and with new teammates, as we need to learn how to play off one another – it’s a team sport after all.
What have you been doing different compared to previous seasons?
This season I have been training four times a week whilst competing sometimes twice a week with London Southbank University team and the WBBL team. It’s hard work especially alongside studies and work – but it’s made a massive difference to my game. Also having the opportunity to work one on one with Coach Vear has allowed me to develop my individual game a lot. Even though I’ve had a good start to the season, there’s only room for improvement which I will continue to work hard at.
What have you thought of the WBBL so far?
My thoughts of the WBBL so far – It’s been an eye-opener, not just for myself but for my team mates too. Our games have been extremely close and our performances shows that we are so close to getting the results we want and deserve.
What are you goals for the season?
My goal for this season is to grow as a player and support my team by playing my part whether it’s as a player, a friend, or a mentor. I’m looking forward to a very positive season.
You can check out Vanessa Da Silva and the WBBL team this coming Sunday 15th November at Brixton Rec as they take on Leicester Riders with a 4pm tip off. It’s FREE entry for ALL.
