D2 Men Awards 2015/16

May 18, 2016

As the NBL 2015/16 season has come to a close, Coaches Ronnie Baker and David Salisbury give out their individual player awards.

Most Valuable Player: John Stewart
The form GB Under 20 international was a key cog in the lineup this year for Brixton men. John is able to post up against smaller defenders and take bigger defenders out to the perimeter. He led the team in points per game and rebounds per game and was second in assists per game.

Most Improved Player: Mike Peel

Mike was told during pre-season that the point guard spot was competitive given the roster and he’d have to earn his minutes and that’s exactly what he did. Mike bided his time and worked hard throughout the season to go from frustrations on the bench to starting point guard over the course of the season and set a great example of hard work and dedication.

Defensive Player: Robert Odia

There were a number of candidates for this award but Rob earned his minutes with his work on the defensive end of the floor and was a tough matchup for any of the other guards in the division. His footwork, discipline, tenacity and competitiveness makes him a good defender.

Offensive Player: James Lloyd

James made contributions on both sides of the ball but he stood out at the offensive end. At just 18 years of age James was second in both points per game and assists for the Topcats. James’ first season in men’s Division 2 was a strong showing and he’ll be looking to progress further next season. His excellent contributions both for Topcats and his Academy side have been recognised in his inclusion in the Under 19’s squad for the hoopsfix.com All Star Classic which will be hosted at Brixton Rec on Sunday 6th June.

Coaches Player: Mike Peel

Whilst there was more than one candidate for this award, Mike’s dedication and hard work earned him this award. Mike was one of the team’s most experience players and set a great example for others to follow. Mike was often the first in the gym and always found a way to make a positive contribution to the team.

Congratulations to all of the players for their individual awards.
