We hear from Head James Markham with his chosen individual player awards for the Division 2 Men’s side for the 2014/15 season.
Most Valuable Player: Aaron Branch
Aaron missed the start of the season but he soon emerged as one of the team leaders and lead through his words and actions. He displayed versatility on both the offense and defense scoring inside and out, rebounding on both ends and guarding virtually every position on the court. Competitive by nature, he wants to win every drill in practice and his intensity rubs off on the rest of the team.
Runner Up: Daniel Dunscombe
Most Improved Player: D Rano Green
D Rano made tremendous leaps in all areas of his game this year and it reflected in the minutes he played and his contribution to our performances which steadily increased. His biggest strengths are that he knows his role, he is comfortable in that role and he does it to the best of his ability without complaint.
Runner Up: Tim Shodipo
Defensive Player of the Year: Robert Gettaly
For me this was a tough one as there were a few players who could have won this one but I decided to go with Robert Gettaly. Robert is a gritty competitor who uses guile, his high basketball IQ, his competitive spirit and mental toughness to play great individual defense on the player he has been assigned to guard but he is also a tremendous team defense too. His versatility allowed us to use him on a myriad of opponents and play him in our “pressing unit”
Runner Up: Marvin Addy/Piero Lusiani
Coaches Player of the Year: Tom Martin
Tom is an unselfish young man who put his ego to one side and did whatever I asked of him. He didn’t follow blindly, there were times he questioned what we were doing and sometimes our conversations did alter my decisions but when they didn’t he got on board wholeheartedly and did his best to get his team mates to do the same too.
Runner Up: Piero Lusiani
Congratulations to all of the players for their individual awards where we are all looking forward to next season for the Division 2 team as they look to gain promotion.
